Nexus One to get Android 2.2 over the air update this week

Videos Nexus One from Youtube

The wait will soon be over. Google has announced that official over the air updates to Android 2.2/Froyo will be rolled out to the Nexus One this week. Nexus One owners should receive a message on the phone's notification bar at the of the screen.

Hopefully by Friday those of you with the Google phone (who haven't already rooted and installed Froyo unofificially) will be able to enjoy being able to save apps to the SD card and updating all apps simultaneously among other things.

There's no word on whether or not you need to back up your data although it'd perhaps be a good idea to do that before installing any updates. You'll probably also want to download the update over Wi-Fi to avoid any extra data charges.

With the Nexus One getting its update on, we'd hope that HTC isn't too far behind-although with HTC Sense to contend with, a slight delay is to be expected. A spokesman for HTC told us, "We are working hard with our partners to update the HTC Sense experience on Froyo and distribute it to our customers as fast as possible. We expect to release updates for several of our 2010 model including Desire, Legend and Wildfire beginning in Q3."
